Data centres
Two hyperscale data centres are under construction at 6100 Langstaff Rd, code-named YTO11 and YTO12. Approved July 2024. Everyone within a 4km radius is affected, the hydro and electrical strain reaches most of Vaughan, and surrounding conservation land is threatened. Researchers found no public record of the council vote.
What the research says data centres do
A measured heat dome raising nearby temperatures, heavy water consumption, upward pressure on utility rates, noise and air pollution linked to sleep loss and hearing damage, and property value growth slowed about 3.1% by year three.
Transit
Service is slow, inconsistent and infrequent, and has been for decades. It hits non-drivers hardest: people without a vehicle, disabled residents, seniors and teenagers. Improvements are real but weighted toward roads.
